In ‘Statue’ ( a landmark in Trivandrum) among the many statues these iron casted fencing and sculpture of Shri Velu Thampy Dalawa one never forget. Then the secretariat in Trivandrum where most of the political drama take place.

The Kerala Government Secretariat: Over 140 years old, the building’s foundation stone was laid by His Highness Ayilyam Thirunal, the Maharaja of Travancore in 1865 and was completed in 1869. The original structure was planned to accommodate Travancore Royal Durbar Hall where the King meet his council of ministers on monthly basis. It was designed and built under Barton, the then chief engineer of Travancore and incorporates elements of Roman and Dutch architecture.

Velayudhan Chempakaraman Thampi (1765–1809) was the Dalawa or Prime Minister of the Indian kingdom of Travancore between 1802 and 1809 during the reign of His Highness Maharajah Bala Rama Varma Kulasekhara Perumal. He is best known for being one of the earliest individuals to rebel against the British East India Company’s supremacy in India. (Text:WIKI)

Trucks On… ‘rail… ‘ the move. Save fuel and save environment.

Trucks on railways wagons

But not good for Delhi -NCR regions.

Indian railway has informed the National Green Tribunal that it will not be possible to provide ‘Roll-On, Roll-Off’ (RO-RO) services with the existing infrastructure and it is not feasible in Delhi as almost the entire rail network in the region is electrified.

“The ro-ro (roll-on roll-off) service by Konkan Railway started 13 years ago is a unique service that has enabled transport of loaded trucks directly by railway wagons.  “The ro-ro service has reduced expenditure on diesel, wear and tear of tyre and maintenance of trucks for operators, and has also ensured on-time and intact delivery,”  adding that in 13 years since its inception, there has not been a single case of accident.

This trip is after 19 years of gap. I been there with friends several times, now with my family. We took a jeep ride because not enough time to trek. Its also given me a different experience. Driving through the ghat road can take only 4-wheel drive jeeps and only locally trained drivers. Kudachadri always given me a enchanting experience. Remember my first trip with friends in 1989-90,  we trek to Kodachadri from Kollur.  On the trekking trail one has to pass through Gopalan’s tea shop. Only one who served the essential food like idli, bread, biscuits and bananas (from his farm). Gopalan is a Keralite and living inside the forest for many years…  Now i am not sure whether he still run that shop or there are more people opened shops. In Kudachadri there many vendors now. Place is getting littered. The many who dare to go to the peak are malayalees.

Kodachadri is a mountain peak with dense forests (elevation – 1,343 metres above sea level) in the Western Ghats in South India (Shindig Dist., Karnataka State). It is declared as natural heritage site by Government Karnataka and it is 10th highest peak of Karnataka
