Trucks On… ‘rail… ‘ the move. Save fuel and save environment.

Trucks on railways wagons

But not good for Delhi -NCR regions.

Indian railway has informed the National Green Tribunal that it will not be possible to provide ‘Roll-On, Roll-Off’ (RO-RO) services with the existing infrastructure and it is not feasible in Delhi as almost the entire rail network in the region is electrified.

“The ro-ro (roll-on roll-off) service by Konkan Railway started 13 years ago is a unique service that has enabled transport of loaded trucks directly by railway wagons.  “The ro-ro service has reduced expenditure on diesel, wear and tear of tyre and maintenance of trucks for operators, and has also ensured on-time and intact delivery,”  adding that in 13 years since its inception, there has not been a single case of accident.

This trip is after 19 years of gap. I been there with friends several times, now with my family. We took a jeep ride because not enough time to trek. Its also given me a different experience. Driving through the ghat road can take only 4-wheel drive jeeps and only locally trained drivers. Kudachadri always given me a enchanting experience. Remember my first trip with friends in 1989-90,  we trek to Kodachadri from Kollur.  On the trekking trail one has to pass through Gopalan’s tea shop. Only one who served the essential food like idli, bread, biscuits and bananas (from his farm). Gopalan is a Keralite and living inside the forest for many years…  Now i am not sure whether he still run that shop or there are more people opened shops. In Kudachadri there many vendors now. Place is getting littered. The many who dare to go to the peak are malayalees.

Kodachadri is a mountain peak with dense forests (elevation – 1,343 metres above sea level) in the Western Ghats in South India (Shindig Dist., Karnataka State). It is declared as natural heritage site by Government Karnataka and it is 10th highest peak of Karnataka

Its an amazing experience the moment we reach Hatu peak to view this. Hatu peak is situated above 1152 ft from sea level. 8 km from Narkanda, the road is surrounded by pine and spruce trees. On top of the hill, ancient Hatu Mata temple is located. The peak offers spectacular view of the entire Himalayan ranges, snow clad mountains and in depths are the dense forests, green fields and apple orchards.

Trissur pooram (from my 2005 photo story)

Pooram Performance, Trissur

It was after a long time I went to cover the world largest ritual performance  called Pooram, it performed in Vadukkumnatha temple in Trissur, Kerala. As per my plans i found the wonderful position to shoot. Its an Asias biggest event perform annually.

The moderate showers that started around 2 p.m. on Wednesday could not dampen the spirits of the scintillating percussion concert `Elanjithara Melam’ held around that time.

Later when heavy rain, accompanied by gusty winds lashed the city just after the beginning of the `Kudamattam’ (exchange of parasols) in the afternoon, they went on dancing, cheerfully yelling and waving their hands each time a set of parasols were exchanged by the friendly rivals of the Pooram, the Thiruvambady and Paramekkavu Devaswoms.
