IS DMRC an unfriendly to ‘differently-abled’ passengers?? Yes

Not only that today evening at Rajiv Chowk metro station,  Sandesh  a daily wage labor come to take a ticket at the counter has been refused and ignored. He neither got any help from guard on duty. When I saw him struggling to draw a token from the machine, I offered a help.  He got the token. Then he wishes to recharge his card because have to travel back tomorrow morning on rush hours for work. There he find another problem, machine accept only single notes. He don’t have it, neither I. I try to contact the person at counter, they refused. I said he is differently-abled person and can’t you find a solution. They said we are not supposing to. Then I took out my camera to shoot.  Suddenly he got a single 100 rupee note from the counter also requested me that “ I am on a daily wages and may loose job, please don’t trouble”.  So job and money/ salary is only for him (DMRC staff).  .  I never expect from the guard on duty who refuse to help because he is rushing for dinner. Everything solved in 5-7 mins because of  my camera.

{ From DMRC’s guide book,Facilities for the differently-abled:  Delhi Metro is perhaps India’s first public transport system with adequate features for differently-abled persons. These include extra-wide automatic flap gates for wheelchairs, lifts with buttons installed at a low level, tactile paths for the visually impaired, reserved spaces for wheelchairs in trains, etc. In addition, station staff constantly monitors passenger movement and provides personal help to any differently-abled person who needs assistance.”}

remembering 1999 Super Cyclone,India

A village woman (suspected Cholera patient)  rescued by Indian Army from Kankan an isolated village  near  ‘Ersamma” in Orissa  after 1999 Super Cyclone hit.  Even days after the disastera stench-filled wasteland of corpses and carcasses. Little else remains. The lack of relief work in 1999  is a poorly managed. Today we are far ahead that able to evacuate more than 2lakh population to a safe place…
